NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women’s cross country team embarked on the 2016 season with the Belmont Opener on Saturday at Percy Warner Park. The Tigerbelles earned sixth place in the team competition with 175 points.
Individually, Christian Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) paced TSU with a 23:00.9 finish in the 5K, followed by her sister, Kayla Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) in 23:17.7.
Jasmir Spearman (Atlanta, Ga.) was third on the team with a time of 23:34.9. Checking in at 4th and 5th for the Tigerbelles were Alexia King (Atlanta, Ga.) and Mikayla Banks (Houston, Texas).
Vanderbilt’s Sara Tsai won the race with a 17:29.9 finish. She helped the Commodores win the team event with 24 points.
TSU’s next meet is the Asics Embry-Riddle Classic on Sept. 17 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

“On the women’s side, we’re still young in cross country. Kenyana (Hampton) will join us next week, so everyone is doing a good job until she gets back. My 800m runners, I feel like they can get out a little harder. I think we’re missing morning runs, so we’ll work on that.”
