NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– The Tennessee State women’s cross country team experienced many personal bests at the Belmont Opener on Saturday. As a team, TSU finished sixth and was led by Kenyana Hampton.

The sophomore placed 30th in the 91 runner field as she ran her best race on the Percy Warner course in a time of 20:40.3. The time was just under two minutes faster than her time as a freshman in 2014.

“Kenyana ran a really good race today,” said Coach Chandra Cheeseborough. “She was considerably ahead of her time from last year. We will continue to add mileage to our training and build to get better as the season progresses."

Diera Taylor and India Smith also recorded career bests on the course on Saturday. Taylor finished in a time of 25:36.9, 36 seconds better than a year ago, while Smith cut five seconds crossing the tape at 27:29.8.

Kayla Pryor edged her twin sister, Christian, at the finish line by one-tenth of a second, completing the course in 23:24.5.

Jasmir Spearman scored for Tennessee State, placing 36th overall, in a time of 24:25.

Lipscomb took the team title ahead of Vanderbilt and Belmont. Chattanooga and UAB finished just ahead of TSU.

The Tigers will return to action at the UTC Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Friday, Sept. 11.
