Nashville, Tenn. - After hosting the TSU Invite last weekend (2/6) the Tennessee State University Tigerbelles will travel to nearby Murfreesboro, Tenn. to compete in the Valentine's Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State.
The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Murphy Center on the campus of MTSU. The competition will begin with the women's weight throw at 11 a.m. and will end with the 4x400-meter relay which is slated for a 4:40 p.m. start.
The pool of teams entered to compete will include men and women's squads from: Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Alabama State, Bethel, Milligan, Chattanooga, and Western Kentucky.
In their last competition on the season at the TSU Invite, the 4x400-meter relay quartet of Jacarra Dennis, Pia Perez, Gabrielle Todd, and Jaleeca Jacobs recorded their fastest time of the season, 3:56.61, for a third place finish. The Tigerbelles remain second in the OVC ranks in the event and is one of two relay teams to have cracked the four-minute mark in the event.
In other events, Todd finished the open 400-meter in fourth place with a career mark of 58.57 seconds. She remains in the OVC top-ten in the event. For the field events, Martinique Guice posted the best outing with a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 18" 0.25 (5.49m).
The Tigerbelles return to the Valentine's Invitational from last year while competing in the Murphy Center early this season. Last year, the team placed in the top three in six events with several runners returning this year.
The 4x400-meter relay team took first place with Dennis, Perez, Jacobs and former team member Salisha Marryshow finishing with a time of 4:02.04. Dennis also placed third in the 400-meter dash with a 1:00.20 clocking.
The Tigerbelles will be dormant next week before they gear up for the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. The meet is scheduled for Feb. 26 - 28 and will be hosted by Tennessee State University on the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track inside the Gentry Center.
