Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University Tigerbelles will head to Cookeville, Tenn. to compete in the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The meet is hosted by Tennessee Tech inside Tucker Stadium from April 30 - May 1.

The meet begins Friday with the track events starting at 2:15 p.m. CST with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and the field events kicking off at 1 p.m. CST with the high jump. The meet resumes Saturday at 8:45 a.m. CST.

The Tigerbelles are looking to better their seventh-place finish from last year's 2009 Championship and are led by Martinique Guice, Daniecce Ward, Gabrielle Todd and DeRonda Newson. The four are all listed in the top ten of this season's OVC Best Performance List in their respective events.

A four-time OVC champion and defender of last year's long jump crown, Guice, ranks third in the conference in the long jump (18'11.75). At the 2010 indoor championship, Guice entered the meet with a second-place ranking in the event but defended her title from a year ago winning for a consecutive year.

Todd ranks fifth in the 400-meter (57.03) and sixth in the high jump (5'4.25). Ward is listed seventh in high jump (5'3) and triple jump (36'1.25) with Newson rounding out the list in the event at tenth (35' 6.75").

In the relays, the Tigerbelles' 4x100-meter relay team is ranked third (47.62) while the 4x400-meter relay team is listed fourth (3:56.84). Both relay teams posted their best times at the Boston-Moon Classic.

Kenisha Ladler and Apryl Johnson rank eighth and ninth in the 400-meter hurdles and will look to improve in their first outdoor championship.

TSU enters the conference championship with high hopes after rounding out the regular outdoor season seizing five top-three finishes at the Eastern Kentucky Open (4/16).

At the EKU Open, Guice picked up her seventh career win in long jump in outdoor competition. Ward took second in the high jump clearing 4" 11.75 (1.52m) and also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 35" 06.75 (10.84m). Todd lowered her time in the 400m (57.03 seconds) posting a career best finishing third in the event.
