Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University Tigerbelles will head to Richmond, Ky. to participate in the EKU Open.
The competition, hosted by conference opponent Eastern Kentucky, is set for Friday, April 16th, on the Tom Samuels Track on the campus of EKU. The field events are slated for 3 p.m. with the running events scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
Last season at the Open, TSU picked up wins in three events. Among others, Martinique Guice won the long jump with a mark of 18" 04.50'. She followed with second-place performances in the triple jump (36"01.25') and 100-meter dash (12.21 seconds).
Jaleeca Jacobs captured second place in the 400-meter dash (59.62 seconds.) with the 4x100-meter relay team posting 47.88 seconds for a second-place finish also.
The Tigerbelles are coming off notable performances capturing four events including the 4x100-meter (47.62 secs.) and 4x400-meter relays (3:56.84) at home in the 8th Annual Boston-Moon Classic (4/10).
Gabrielle Todd notched a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.70 and Daniecce Ward won the high jump clearing 5' 3.0 (1.60m). Both athletes captured their first career wins in the events respectively.
Guice finished second with a mark of 18' 11.75" in the long jump putting here at the top of the conference's performance list on the season. She was named OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week (4/13) for her effort.
The Tigerbelles will return to the track on April 30th for the OVC Championship hosted by Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn.
