Nashville, Tenn. - The Tigerbelles will continue their 2010 outdoor campaign when Tennessee State University travels to Columbia, S.C. to participate in the Weems Baskin Invitational.
The competition, hosted by the University of South Carolina, is set for Saturday, March 27, and will be held on the Weems Baskin Track.
Field events will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw while the first running event starts at 12 p.m. with the women's 3, 000-meter steeplechase. For all field events, the men's section will go first followed by the women's section with the exception of the pole vault and shot put.
Teams entered to compete include a field of men and women's teams from Appalachian State, Ashland, Benedict, Charleston Southern, Claflin, Coastal Carolina, Coker, Cornell, Dayton, Fort Valley State, Morris, South Carolina State, Tennessee State, UNC-Pembroke and Voorhees.
Last season, the women's javelin, women's long jump, triple jump and 4x400 relay were canceled due to rain and lightning.
In their first outdoor meet this season, the T-belles picked finished fourth overall in the team standings at the 39th Annual Morehouse Relays (3/20).
Jasmine Jacobs captured her first career victory winning the 3000-meter steeplechase with a 13:23.12 clocking. She also added a third-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:25.44.
TSU also managed second-place finishes in four events.
Gabrielle Todd shared a three-way draw for second in the high jump at 5'04 (1.62m). In the long jump, Guice finished in second place with a mark of 18'10.5 (5.75m) while the 4x200 (1:42.63) and 4x800 (10:39.56) relay teams settled in at the runner-up spot.
Next up, the Tigerbelles will take the week off before competing on their home track during the Boston-Moon Classic on April 10. The meet will be held on the Edward S. Temple Track Complex in Nashville on the campus Tennessee State University.
