Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University Tigerbelles ended the indoor season at the 2010 OVC Indoor Championship held on the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track in Nashville on Saturday (2/27).
The Tigerbelles captured 42 points for a seventh-place finish in the final standings.
Eastern Illinois repeated as team champions with 142 points. Eastern Kentucky (128), Southeast Missouri State (93), Austin Peay State (72), Murray State (57), Jacksonville State (54), and Tennessee Tech (36) rounded the team scoring.
Martinique Guice highlighted the team effort retaining her individual championship title in the long jump with her best mark of the season, 19" 03.25 (5.87m). Guice also posted season marks placing fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.17 secs.) and the triple jump (36"10.5 / 11.24m).
Gabrielle Todd managed a season best in the 400-meter dash and high jump events. She took third in the high jump with a vault of 5" 04.25 (1.63m) and finished fifth in the 400m with a clocking of 57.36 seconds.
Several other Tigerbelles scored in the top eight in the open events. Jacobs qualified for the 800m finals registering a time of 2:23.04 but would settle for an eighth-place score with a time of 2:32.13.
In the field events, DeRonda Newson, Daniecce Ward and Ebonie Jackson finished in the top eight also posting team points. Newman finished seventh in the triple jump (36" 5.0 / 11.10m) and Ward followed in eighth (35" 10.5 / 10.93m).
Jackson was the only T-belle to compete in the throwing events. She finished seventh in the shot with a season mark of 39" 07.25 (12.18m) and rounded out at eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 47" 03.5 (14.41m).
The Tigerbelles will open the outdoor season at the Morehouse Relays on March 19-20 in Atlanta, Ga. at the Edwin Moses Track on the campus of Morehouse College.
