Guice and Kagaruki Finish Second

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tigerbelles jump started 2008-09 indoor track and field season this past Saturday (1206) at the Middle Tennessee State University Christmas Invitational.

Senior Rahab Kagaruki and sophomore Martinique Guice led the Tigerbelles respectively in their individual events. Kagaruki took second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.43 and placed fifth in the mile run with a 5:38.39 clocking. Guice finished second in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet 11.5 inches (5.77m). Guice also competed in the 55 meters placing sixth with a time of 7.43 while finishing seventh in the 200 meters (26.85).

Salisha Marryshow led the Tigerbelles in the 200-meter dash finishing fourth with a time of 25.96.

Lanika Horn bounced back from a fifth place finish in the long jump (16'09.25) registering a third place in the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet 6.75 inches (11.44m).

Freshman Tenesha Campbell made her Tigerbelle debut finishing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet and one inch (13.13m). Kathy Onwu also finished fourth in the weight throw event with a mark of 53 feet three inches (16.23m).

The Tigerbelles will next host the Ed Temple Classic on January 11th.
