Marryshow and Guice Capture Individual Titles
Charleston, Ill. – In the last day of competition at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship, the Tigerbelles finished fourth in the final standings with 77.5 points. Eastern Illinois captured the 2009 indoor title with 146 points followed by Southeast Missouri (108.5) and Murray State (86).
Seeded third, Marryshow won the open 400-meter dash with her fastest indoor time of the season, 58.04 seconds. Marryshow keeps the Tigerbelle's 400-indoor title streak alive succeeding Dominique Holmes who won the event in 2008, 2007, and 2006.
Guice picked up her first career indoor title winning the long jump on the first day of competition with a leap of 18' 7.75". Guice was the top seeded jumper heading the OVC Best List during the season. Guice also placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 37'05.00".
Lanika Horn finished the triple in second place with a jump of 38'02.75" and Tanesha Campbell was runner-up in the shot put with a 46'02.50" toss. Rahab Kagaruki furnished her fastest time of the season in the 800-meter dash posting a time of 2:19.57 for third place.
In the 1600-meter relay, the Tigerbelles seven-year reign in the event snapped finishing second overall. The team of Marryshow, Jaleeca Jacobs, Autumn White and Pia Perez finished with a season's fastest, 3:59.12.
The Tigerbelles will open their outdoor season when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the Morehouse Relays, on March 19-21.
