Guice Remains Undefeated, Horn Doubles Up, and Several T'Belles Post Season Best

Richmond, Ky. – The Tennessee State University Tigerbelles concluded the regular outdoor season winning four individual events in the Eastern Kentucy Open Friday night. Under the lights at the Tom Samuels Track in Richmond, Ky., several Tigerbelles improved their performances on the season.

Martinique Guice, Lanika Horn, and Kathy Onwu picked up wins, while in other individual events, the Tigerbelles placed back-to-back. 

Guice remains undefeated in the long jump winning the event with a mark of 18'04.50". She followed with second-place performances in the triple jump (36'01.25") and 100-meter dash (12.21 seconds). The 100-meter time is Guice's fastest on the year finishing first among collegiate runners in the event.

Horn grabbed wins in the triple jump and high jump. She took first in the triple jump with a leap of 36'08.25" and won the high jump with her best performance on the year clearing 5'03.75". Horn also finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with here fastest time this season, 14.53 seconds.

In the throws, Onwu picked up her second straight win in the shot put tossing 40'07.00". She finished third in the discus behind teammate Tanesha Campbell with a mark of 130'02".

Campbell took second in both the discus (132'05.00") and shot put (40'06.00") while Ebonie Jackson finished off the discus at fourth with a throw of 126'09.00".

Other notable performances resulting in their fastest times on the season include: Jaleeca Jacobs' second place finish in the 400-meter dash, (59.62 sec.) and the 4x100-meter relay team (Horn, Guice, Pia Perez, Jacarra Dennis) posting 47.88 seconds for second place. 

The Tigerbelles will take next week off from competition to prepare for the 2009 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The two-day meet is scheduled for May 1-2 and will be hosted by Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Ky.
