TSU Tigerbelle head coach, Chandra Cheeseborough, the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Coach of the year in both Indoor and Outdoor Track will leave Nashville on Wednesday June 25th for Eugene, Oregon for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. She is slated to be an assistant coach for the United States Women’s Olympic team.

Cheeseborough will work with runners in the 200m and 400m events. “I look forward to working with these Olympic caliber athletes,” says Cheeseborough. “I hope to be a facilitator in helping the athletes meet their personal goals.” At the Olympic Trials, she will be part of the process of selecting and training the top four runners in both the 200m and 400m, as well as a possible 8 to 16 relay alternates.

A three-time Olympian (1976, 1980 & 1984), Cheeseborough earned a bronze medal (100m) at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and in Los Angeles (1984) she garnered two Gold medals (4x100 / 4x400 relays) and one Silver (400m) medal. She was named to the 1980 Moscow Olympic team, but the United States boycotted those games.

A reunion of the 1980 Olympians is scheduled to take place in Eugene June 25-30 and Cheeseborough anticipates that reunion. “I’m excited at the opportunity to see those teammates after all these years,” she said.

Cheeseborough will return from the Olympic Trials on July 8th, she will leave August 1st for the Beijing Olympic games.

Following the Beijing Olympics, Cheeseborough will return to coach the Tigerbelle Cross-Country team.

Coach “Cheese” will not be finished with International coaching after the Olympics, as she will be the head coach of the U.S. Women’s World Championship team in the summer of 2009. The World Championships will be run in Athens, Greece.
