Tennessee State (2-9) is still looking for its first conference win of the season after falling to Eastern Illinois in the OVC opener. The Lady Tigers are 2-9, 0-1 OVC and have dropped two straight.

TSU got off to a good start but could not sustain, as the Lady Tigers dropped the OVC opener to Eastern Illinois, 73-52, Thursday night. TSU battled in the first quarter and played to a 16-16 tie before the momentum shifted to EIU. The Panthers used timely scoring runs in the second and third quarters to open up the game. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers struggled on both ends of the floor for most of the night. Taylor Roberts led with15 points and was the only player to reach double-digits for TSU. Megan Kent pulled down a team-best eight rebounds in the contest.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
SIU Edwardsville (2-10, 0-1 OVC) dropped its OVC opener to Belmont, 69-48, in the Curb Event Center Thursday night. The Cougars have lost five straight. Allie Troeckler leads the team in scoring with 11.4 ppg while SIUE’s other leading scorers Christen King (8.2 ppg) and Bria Stallworth (7.5 ppg) average a little under 10 points per game. As a team, SIUE averages 58.3 ppg while shooting 35.9 percent from the field and 22.8 percent from three-point range. SIUE was predicted to finish 9th in the OVC race.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Despite getting off to a fast start, the Tennessee State University women’s basketball team dropped a, 66-55, decision to SIU Edwardsville in the Gentry Center. TSU led most of the contest but saw the game slip away down the stretch after getting outscored 26-13 in the final quarter. Taylor Roberts led TSU with 14 points while Jaden Wrightsell added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Tennessee State will face SIU Edwardsville for the 14th time in the series history with SIUE leading, 10-3. The Cougars won last year’s meeting and have won four straight.
