Following an eight-day break from game action, the Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 8 against crosstown Lipscomb University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is looking to snap a five game losing skid. The Lady Tigers won their season opener before dropping the next five contests to move to 1-5 on the season.
Tennessee State is averaging 58.2 points per game while shooting 31.5 percent from the field and 23.6 percent from long range. TSU is shooting 66.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Taylor Roberts leads the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg to go with 5.4 rpg. Jazmine Young is the second leading scorer with 9.7 ppg while freshman Deaja Richardson (9.2 rpg) rounds out the top three scorers. Jaden Wrightsell is pulling down a team-best 7.0 rebounds per outing.

TSU fell behind by double-digits after suffering through a few scoring droughts. TSU trailed 36-21 at the break. The Lady Tigers nearly matched the Jaguars point-for-point in the second half but the deficit was too much to overcome. Freshman Deaja Richardson posted a career-high 17 points and six steals. TSU finished the game shooting 35.7 percent from the field, including 36.4 percent from three-point range.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Lipscomb is off to a 1-7 start. The Bisons have dropped five straight and are most recently coming off a, 70-40, loss to Middle Tennessee. LU’s only win of the season was a 71-69 victory over Northern Kentucky. Jalyn Holcomb leads Lipscomb in scoring with 13.6 ppg while Dorie Harrison (10.2 ppg) and Taylor Clark (9.5 ppg) round out the top three scorers. As a team, the Bisons average 61.9 points per game while shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from three-point range. Lipscomb has gone 0-3 against OVC teams this season Jacksonville State (L, 65-63), Murray State (L, 67-57) and Eastern Illinois (L, 66-56).
TSU and Lipscomb will match up for the 27th time in the series history with TSU leading 22-4. Lipscomb picked up a 64-62 win in Allen Arena the last time the teams met. The victory snapped TSU’s four-game winning streak in the series. TSU’s last win was a 71-64 decision on Dec.15, 2017.
