The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will look to get back on track Thursday when the Lady Tigers host Alcorn State University. Game time for the HBCU Showdown is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Gentry Center.

Tennessee State is coming off an 88-63 loss to loss to North Alabama at home on Monday. The loss was TSU’s second straight and moved the team’s record to 1-2.

After three games, Taylor Roberts leads the team in scoring with 16.0 ppg. She is the only player averaging double-digits. Jazmine Young is the second leading scorer with 9.0 ppg while Jaden Wrightsell is pulling down a team best 9.0 rebounds per outing.

Tennessee State dropped an 88-63 decision to North Alabama after second and fourth quarter struggles. The score was, 19-18, in favor of the opponent when the Lady Tigers got outscored 23-11 in the second period. TSU matched UNA point-for-point in the third period, 25-25, but a dismal final stanza, in which TSU was outscored 21-9, kept the game out of reach. Taylor Roberts finished with 17 points while Jazmine Young posted a career-best 16 points.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Alcorn State dropped its first four contests of the season before picking up an, 86-50, win over Louisiana College on Tuesday. Four players scored in double-digits in the win. ASU is averaging 55.4 ppg and shooting 33.1 percent from the field. Jade Hargrove leads the team in scoring with 10.6 ppg while LaRae Rascoe (9.6 ppg), and Aja Wheeler (8.5 ppg) round out the top three scorers.
Tennessee State will face Alcorn State for the fourth time in the series history with the Lady Braves holding a 3-0 lead. In the last meeting, ASU claimed a 58-48 victory in the consolation game of the Georgia Tech Holiday Tournament on December 30, 2006 in Atlanta, Ga.
