TSU Women's Basketball - 2019 OVC Media Day

Evansville, Ind. --- Tennessee State head coach Jessica Kern attending OVC Media Day in preparation for the upcoming 2019-20 basketball season.

TSU was predicted to finish 11th in the 12-team race by the league coaches and communications directors.

Coach Kern on TSU being picked 11th
Obviously 11th isn’t something that we predicted but its not unexpected to  a degree. We know what we have coming back and we know what we have coming in…and we’re pretty excited about that. The girls know that its going to have to be a dog fight from the beginning. We’re worried about the end result and most importantly we’re focused on us. That’s the main goal.

Expectations for returners
Taylor Roberts is coming back with a whole other (level of) discipline. Last year she suffered an ankle injury that kept her out for a while. She is a person that has a discernment of never giving up. Her body looks very well. She's in great shape and she's shooting the ball very well. I expect her to have a very good year.

Jaden Wrightsell is an unsung hero for us. She's a beast on the boards and I think that's somebody that you should really look for.

The progresssion of the team
I think we're in great shape. I think we're in the best shape I think we're in the best shape that we've been in since I've been at the helm.I think we're very athletic which means we can do a lot defensively. And I love the fact that we've opened a whole new playbook. We're bringing people away from the basket and all five players can do everything. I'm happy with our progress and we're looking forward to going live here pretty soon.
