Sarah Jones Named Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University head women’s basketball coach Jessica Kern announced the hiring of Sarah Jones as an assistant coach for the Lady Tiger program.

Jones comes to Tennessee State after spending five seasons at Loyola-Maryland. During her time with Loyola, she served in many capacities including offensive coordinator for two years and defensive coordinator from 2016-19. She also assisted with the skill development of post players.

“As both a stellar player & a stellar coach – we are beyond lucky to have Coach Jones join the Big Blue family, said head coach Jessica Kern. “At every junction of her career she has proven to be ELITE. Her extensive knowledge with guard development, camp experience, attention to academic excellence and post-season experiences made this an easy hire. As a known recruiter who has experienced the rigorous schedule of the OVC I am confident she will assist us in continuing to raise the bar for the Lady Tigers.”

Prior to her stint at Loyola, Jones spent the 2013-2014 season as an assistant coach at OVC member school Morehead State University where she was the team's offensive coordinator and position coach for guards and wing players. Jones also served as the Eagles' academic liaison, social media coordinator and Elite Camp director.

She got her start as a graduate assistant coach for Villanova in 2012.

Jones was a member of the Villanova University women's basketball program from 2007-2012 and served as team captain for the Wildcats in 2012 as they advanced to the Women's NIT. A three-time Big East All-Academic First Team honoree, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in human services from the Philadelphia-area school in 2011 and a Master of Science in secondary school counseling two years later.

Jones played on three Villanova teams that reached postseason play. The 2009 Harry Perretta-coached Wildcats earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, while the 2008 and 2012 teams played in the WNIT.
