Wooten and Roberts Named to 2018 Women's Basketball All-OVC Team
Tia Wooten and Taylor Roberts led the team in scoring and rebounding this season.

2018 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-OVC TEAM

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University women’s basketball players Tia Wooten and Taylor Roberts earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors on Tuesday for their efforts this season.

Redshirt junior Tia Wooten was selected to the All-OVC First Team while freshman Taylor Roberts garnered All-OVC Newcomer honors.

Wooten had a tremendous year for the Lady Tigers, nearly averaging a double-double. She finished the 2017-18 campaign ranked second in the OVC in scoring with 21.2 ppg while pulling down a league-best 8.9 rebounds per outing.

The 6-0, forward also ranked 2nd in the OVC in offensive rebounds, 3rd in defensive rebounds, 10th in steals and 10th in free-throw percentage.  She finished the season ranked 9th in the nation in made free-throws, 12th in points per game and 12th in free-throw attempts.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Wooten was named the OVC Player of the Week twice this season and was a two-time Sports Madness Player of the Week selection. She scored in double-digits in all 27 games and poured in 20 or more points 16 times. She also tallied 12 double-doubles on the season.

Roberts had a solid rookie season as a Lady Tiger. She was the team’s second leading scorer with 14.6 points per game and averaged 5.7 rebounds per outing.

The Oklahoma City, Okla. native was named OVC Freshman of the Week four times and scored in double-digits in all but five games this season. She registered two double-doubles and recorded a season-high 27 points against Marshall.

Robert finished her first year ranked in the top 20 in six OVC categories: 4th in free-throw percentage, 6th in steals, 7th in offensive rebounds, 9th in scoring, 11th in field goal percentage and 19th in overall rebounding.  

Wooten and Roberts combined for 51.3 percent of the team’s total points this season and led the Lady Tigers in rebounding.

Tia Wooten (6-0, Forward, Memphis, Tenn.)

  • Led the TSU in scoring and rebounding
  • Averaged 21.2 ppg and 8.9 rpg
  • Ranked 2nd in the OVC in scoring and 1st in overall rebounding
  • Two-time OVC Player of the Week
  • Two-time Sports Madness Player of the Week
  • Recorded 12 double-doubles this season
  • Ranked 2nd in the OVC in offensive rebounds, 3rd in defensive rebounds, 10th in steals and 10th in free-throw percentage

Taylor Roberts (5-11, Forward, Oklahoma City, Okla.)

  • Second leading scorer and rebounder on the team
  • Averaged 14.6 ppg and 5.7 rpg
  • Ranked 4th in OVC in free-throw percentage, 6th in steals, 7th in offensive rebounds, 9th in scoring, 11th in field goal percentage and 19th in overall rebounding.
  • Four-time OVC Freshman of the Week
  • Posted two double-doubles this season
  • Scored in double-digits in all but five games this season
