GAMEDAY: The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will play the final home game of the 2017-18 season on Saturday when the Lady Tigers host Eastern Kentucky in an OVC matchup. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center on Senior Night and Courtside Dining. Maxine Beard, the lone senior, will be honored before the start of the game.

THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE: Tennessee State (5-19, 3-12 OVC) has had a couple of tough losses in its last two outings and will look to end a three-game skid Saturday night. The Lady Tigers are most recently coming off a 71-69 loss to Morehead State and have dropped the last two games by a combined three points.

Redshirt junior Tia Wooten is leading the team with an OVC best 21.5 points per game while freshman Taylor Roberts averages 14.6 points per outing. Kaliya Griffin (8.8 ppg) is the third leading scorer for the Lady Tigers. Wooten and Roberts also lead the team in rebounding.

As a team, TSU is averaging 68.8 points per game while shooting 37.7 from the field and 31.0 percent from three-point range. The Lady Tigers are shooting 75.3 from the free-throw line.

In the OVC rankings, TSU is second in free-throw percentage, third in offensive rebounding and fourth in steals.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU suffered its second consecutive heartbreaking loss Thursday night after falling to Morehead State, 71-69, at home. The Lady Tigers battled the entire night but couldn’t make enough plays to pull out the win. Tia Wooten posted her 9th double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Maxine Beard posted a career-best 15 points while Kaliya Griffin (13) and Taylor Roberts (12) also finished in double-digits.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT: Eastern Kentucky is fighting for a spot in the OVC tournament. The Colonels (8-16, 5-10 OVC) are in 9th place in the league standings. EKU dropped a 95-62 decision to Belmont on Thursday and has lost six of its last seven. A’Queen Hayes leads the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game while Abby Wright turns in 14.3 ppg. Bria Bass rounds out the top three scorers with 10.8 ppg. As a team, EKU averages 57.3 points per game while shooting 38.5 percent from the field.

SERIES INFORMATION: Tennessee State and Eastern Kentucky will meet for the 65th time in the series history and the second time this season. EKU leads the overall series, 41-23, but TSU claimed the victory when the teams met earlier this month.

LAST TIME THEY MET: In a game that went down to the wire, TSU pulled off a thrilling victory over EKU, 59-58, in McBrayer Arena. It was TSU’s first road win of the season. With TSU trailing, 58-57, Freshman Taylor Roberts stepped up to make two crucial free-throws to give the Lady Tigers a, 59-58, advantage with 6.1 seconds left. The Lady Tigers came up with a big stop on the other end to seal the win.
