NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University women’s basketball player Tia Wooten was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The redshirt junior nearly averaged a double-double last week with 27.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
She posted 28 points, 11 rebounds and two steals against Jacksonville State before helping TSU pick up its first OVC win of the season behind 26 points, eight rebounds and two steals versus Tennessee Tech.
The 26-point performance was her fourth consecutive game scoring at least 20 points.
Wooten, a native of Memphis, Tenn., is currently leading the OVC in scoring with 21.5 points per game while ranking 6th in overall rebounding, 7th in free-throw percentage, 9th in steals, 14th in blocked shots, 8th in offensive rebounding, 6th in defensive rebounding and 13th in minutes played.
The 6-0, Forward is also 17th in the nation in scoring.
This is Wooten’s second OVC Player of the Week award this season. She earned OVC Co-Player of the Week honors on Nov. 13 for her 33-point, 11-rebound performance against Memphis.
