GAMEDAY: The Tennessee State will hit the road for the final non-conference road game of the season when the Lady Tigers take on No. 4 Louisville, Tuesday Dec. 12. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET in the KFC Yum! Center.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE: Tennessee State (1-5) picked up its first win of the season against Fisk on Saturday. The win snapped a five-game losing skid to open the season for the Lady Tigers.
Redshirt junior Tia Wooten (22.0 ppg) and Freshman Taylor Roberts (15.8 ppg) lead the team in scoring while Kaliya Griffin (7.2 ppg) rounds out the top three scorers for TSU. Wooten (8.5 rpg) and Roberts (8.3 rpg) are the team’s leading rebounders.
As a team, TSU is averaging 72.7 ppg while shooting 38.7 percent from the field. The Lady Tigers are shooting 69.1 percent from the free-throw line while struggling from beyond the arc (.243).
TSU is second in the OVC in offensive rebounding and 4th in steals.
The Lady Tigers are under the direction of first year head coach Jessica Kern.
LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee State led from the beginning and finally got into the win column after defeating Fisk University, 93-48, in the Gentry Center. Five players scored in double-digits led by Tia Wooten’s 20 points and career-high 12 rebounds. Franceska Brown tallied a career-high 19 points while Taylor Roberts (19), Kaliya Griffin (12) and Taylor Williams (10) also scored in double-figures.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT: Louisville, a member of the ACC, is off to an 11-0 start this season, including an 80-26 win over Middle Tennessee most recently. The Cardinals have played three other OVC opponents this season (Southeast Missouri, Murray State and UT Martin). UofL averages 83.5 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. Asia Durr (18.4 ppg) leads the team in scoring while Myisha Hines-Allen averages 13.3 ppg.
SERIES INFORMATION: Tennessee State and Louisville will meet for the sixth time in the history of the programs with the Cardinals leading, 3-2. The last time these two teams met, Louisville defeated TSU, 88-25, in the KFC Yum! Center (11/31/12). During the 1986-87 season, TSU and Louisville played twice and split, 1-1. UofL claimed the first meeting, 86-63, before TSU answered with a 78-65 victory later in the season. TSU also went 1-1 against Louisville during the 1985-86 season.
