The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team returns to action with a road contest at OVC foe SIU Edwardsville on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. in the Vadalabene Center on Youth Day.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (8-9-, 3-4 OVC) is coming off a, 64-51, win over Jacksonville State Saturday night in the Gentry Center. The victory snapped a two-game losing skid. TSU improved to 5-1 at home but has only managed a 2-7 mark on the road this season.
The Lady Tigers are averaging 65.2 points per contest while shooting 40.0 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from three-point range. TSU is only shooting 63.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Jayda Johnson leads the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game while Olivia Jones (11.4 ppg) and I’mani Davis (10.6 ppg) also average double-digits for the Lady Tigers. Jones and Davis are also the team’s leading rebounders.
The Lady Tigers are led by fifth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.

Tennessee State defeated Jacksonville State, 64-51, in the Gentry Center. TSU’s defense ignited a second-half run that gave the Lady Tigers control of the game. TSU led by as many as 16 points and held JSU to 51 total points in the win. Jayda Johnson paced the team with 12 points and seven rebounds while Olivia Jones tallied 11 points and three steals.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
SIU Edwardsville (7-13, 3-4 OVC) is riding a two-game winning streak and is most recently coming off a, 70-68, overtime victory at UT Martin on Saturday. SIUE also has wins over Tennessee Tech and SEMO this season. Prior to the two recent wins, SIUE had lost four straight. Donshel Beck (14.2 ppg) leads the team in scoring while Lauren White (12.6 ppg) also averages double-digits. As a team, the Cougars average 66.8 points per game while shooting 38.6 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from three-point range. SIUE makes 72.2 percent of its free-throw attempts.
TSU will match up with SIUE for the ninth time in the series history, with SIUE leading 8-5. Last season TSU claimed the only meeting between the two teams in the Gentry Center, 73-61. SIUE won two seasons ago in the Vadalabene Center.
