Road Trip to EKU up Next for Women's Basketball

GAMEDAY
Following three games in the Gentry Center, the Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will return to the road to face Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Jan.14. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. CT in McBrayer Arena.     

THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (7-7, 2-2 OVC) won its second straight after handing Morehead State its first OVC loss of the season with a, 69-66, victory in the Gentry Center Wednesday night.  

The Lady Tigers are averaging 66.0 points per contest while shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three-point range. TSU is only shooting 64.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Jayda Johnson leads the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game while Olivia Jones (12.6 ppg) and I’mani Davis (11.5 ppg) also average double-digits for the Lady Tigers. Jones and Davis are also the team’s leading rebounders.

The Lady Tigers are led by fifth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.

LAST TIME OUT
TSU came out on the winning end of a fiercely contested battle against Morehead State Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers defeated the Eagles, 69-66, in the Gentry Center after fighting off a late rally by the visitors. TSU led by 10 points with 54 seconds left but MSU pulled to within two with 13 seconds left and forced a turnover for an opportunity to tie the game. TSU got the defensive stop it needed and escaped with the win. Jayda Johnson led TSU with 19 points and nine rebounds while Diamond Beatty scored 13.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Despite its overall record of 6-11, Eastern Kentucky is off to a 3-1 start in the OVC. The Colonels suffered their first league loss after dropping a 74-58 decision to Belmont on the road. Prior to that set back, EKU had won three straight. Jalen O’Bannon leads EKU in scoring with 14.2 ppg while Alexus Cooper (12.4 ppg) and Shavontae Naylor (12.0 ppg) also average double-digits. 

SERIES INFORMATION
TSU will match up with Eastern Kentucky for the 60th time in the series history with the Colonels leading, 39-20. EKU claimed both meetings last season.
