NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team won its second consecutive game after defeating Fisk University, 97-41, Wednesday night in the Gentry Center.
Tennessee State improved to 3-5 on the season.
Jayda Johnson led all scorers with 19 points while Olivia Jones finished with 12. Kaliya Griffin notched a career-high 11 points while Tia Wooten and also registered double-digits with 10.
Tennessee State scored the first nine points of the game and extended the lead to 34-1 by the end of the opening quarter. The Lady Tigers shot 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the field, including 40 percent from three-point range in the stanza.
The second quarter was not as lopsided as TSU only outscored Fisk, 15-10, in the frame. The Lady Tigers led 49-11 at halftime.
Each team scored 24 points in the third quarter but TSU outscored Fisk, 24-6 in the final frame to keep the game out of reach.
The Lady Tigers finished the contest shooting 51.5 percent from the field and held the advantage in second chance points, 19-0, fast break points, 10-2, and points off turnovers, 24-13.
TSU returns to action at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University Dec. 19-20.
