Women's Basketball Faces Fisk in HBCU Showdown

GAMEDAY
The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team returns to the Gentry Center for the first time in almost a month when the Lady Tigers host Fisk University in the first game of the HBCU Showdown double-header on Wednesday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.      

THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (2-5) is coming off a 77-71 overtime win at Lipscomb. TSU has played six of its first seven games on the road. The Lady Tigers have faced teams from the Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Mountain West and SEC so far this season.

The Lady Tigers are averaging 58.4 points per contest while shooting 37.2 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from three-point range. TSU is struggling from the free-throw line and is only shooting .583 from the charity stripe.

Olivia Jones made her debut as a Lady Tiger versus Lipscomb and had 15 points and nine rebounds in the contest. Jayda Johnson (13.4 ppg) and I’mani Davis (12.8 ppg) round out the top three scorers for TSU.

The Lady Tigers are led by fifth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.

LAST TIME OUT
TSU trailed with five minutes left in the game but battled from behind to erase a nine-point deficit. Olivia Jones scored six straight points to pull the Lady Tigers to within one before I’mani Davis scored on the next possession to give TSU the lead. In overtime, TSU made timely plays and hit 8-of-8 free-throws to seal the win. Davis led TSU with 16 points while Jones (15), Beatty (13), Johnson (10) and Beard (10) also reached double-digits.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Fisk University is an HBCU located in Nashville, Tenn. The Bulldogs are Independent members of the NAIA. Fisk is 1-11 on the season and is coming off a 76-53 loss to Faulkner University.

SERIES INFORMATION
TSU and Fisk will meet for the ninth time in the series history with the Lady Tigers leading, 8-0. The teams will match-up for the first time since 2007 when TSU defeated Fisk, 79-21, in the Gentry Center (Jan.15, 2007).

UP NEXT
TSU will travel to Florida to participate in the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson, Dec. 19-20. TSU will face Bethune Cookman on Monday before matching up with Stetson on Tuesday. TSU will close out the month at Murray State with the OVC opener on Dec. 31.
