After a short break the Lady Tigers return to action at the Lady Rebel Round-Up in Las Vegas, Nov. 26-27. TSU will face host UNLV on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT before matching up with either Ole Miss or Wisconsin on Sunday.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (1-2) picked up its first win of the season last Saturday at home versus Arkansas State. TSU’s first losses of the season were to Xavier (Big East) and Oklahoma State (Big 12).
Through three games the Lady Tigers are averaging 59.3 points per contest while shooting 40.3 percent from the field. TSU is struggling from the free-throw line and has only made 23-of-41 (56.1 percent) from the charity stripe.
Seniors and All-OVC preseason selections Jayda Johnson (16.3 ppg) and I’mani Davis (11.7 ppg) lead the team in scoring while senior Diamond Beatty rounds out the top three scorers with 7.7 points per game. Johnson is 10 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
The Lady Tigers are led by fifth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State claimed its first win of the season after defeating Arkansas State, 76-66, at home. TSU shook off a slow start and used a 16-0 run to take a two-point lead into the halftime break before pulling away in the fourth quarter. Diamond Beatty exploded for a career-high 23 points and made five three-pointers in the contest. Jayda Johnson posted 19 points while I’mani Davis recorded a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
