The Post Players

The depth and play of the Tennessee State University women’s basketball post players will be an integral part of the Lady Tigers’ success this season.

With seven players who could be called on to perform in the paint, each one will be expected to contribute.

Preseason All-OVC selection Jayda Johnson highlights the returning post players. The Knoxville native led TSU in scoring last year with 15.7 points and was named to the All-OVC First Team as a junior. She was second on the team in rebounding and finished with 470 total points. Johnson ranked 2nd in the OVC offensive rebounding, 6th in scoring and 8th in overall rebounding. She was also named to the Preseason All-OVC Team.

Johnson will be joined by junior Samantha Palma and sophomore forwards Tiana Parker, Jordan Brightwell and Franceska Brown.

Palma started in 24 games last season while averaging 4.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Tiana Parker averaged 12.7 minutes per outing and put up a season-high 11 points at Southern Illinois last year.

While Brown saw limited action last season, Brightwell competed in 26 games while making five starts.

Redshirt sophomore Tia Wooten returns to the court this season and will see time in the post while transfer Olivia Jones is expected to make a major impact when she becomes eligible to play following the fall semester.

TSU officially begins the season on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Xavier.
