Johnson and Davis Named to All-OVC Team

Brentwood, Tenn. --- Tennessee State University women’s basketball juniors Jayda Johnson and I’mani Davis were named to the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament team on Tuesday as announced by the league office.

Johnson was selected to the first-team while Davis garnered second team honors.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn, Johnson leads the Lady Tigers in scoring this season with 15.6 points per game while averaging 17.1 ppg in conference games only. The 6-0 forward ranks 3rd in the OVC in offensive rebounding and 6th in scoring. She has seven double-doubles this season and posted a career-high 28 points versus Murray State. She has poured in a total of 453 points this season while grabbing 197 rebounds.

Davis is TSU’s leading rebounder while averaging a team second-best 12.7 points per game. She has registered six double-doubles this season and ranks in the top 15   in six OVC categories: defensive rebounding (2nd), overall rebounding (3rd), steals (5th), blocks (7th), scoring (15th) and three-point field goal percentage (11th).

The junior tandem has combined to lead TSU in scoring in 24 out of the team’s 29 games.  

The recognition marks the first time since the 2008-09 season that two Lady Tigers have been named to the All-OVC Team.

Tennessee State is the seventh seed in this year’s OVC tournament and will face No. 2 Belmont in the first round on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium.
