In the regular season finale the Lady Tigers will host Belmont at home on Sunday, Feb. 28. Game time for the conference match-up is slated for noon in the Gentry Center. Senior Brianna Lawrence will be honored before the start of the game as she will play in her final game in the Gentry Center.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State won its second straight and snapped a five-game road losing streak after picking up an important, 68-60, win over Morehead State Wednesday night in Johnson Arena. The victory kept the Lady Tigers in the top 8 and in contention for the OVC tournament.
Jayda Johnson leads the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15.5 points per game while grabbing 7.0 rebounds per game. I’mani Davis averages 13.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg while Brianna Lawrence rounds out the top scorers with 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per outing.
As a team, TSU is averaging 62.0 points per game while shooting 36.1 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from three-point range. From the free-throw line, TSU is shooting 66.2 percent.
The Lady Tigers are led by fourth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State led by as many as 15 but had to fight off Morehead State down the stretch in a 68-60 victory on the road. The win snapped a five-game road losing skid for TSU. Jayda Johnson had 23 points and 12 rebounds while Brianna Lawrence tallied 15 points and 8 boards. Diamond Beatty came off the bench to score 12 points while I’mani Davis nearly posted a triple-double with 12 rebounds, eight points and seven steals.
Belmont (20-8, 12-3 OVC) has won 12 of its last 13 games and currently sits in second place in the OVC standings. The Bruins are most recently coming off a 65-51 road win at Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday.
Kylee Smith leads Belmont in scoring with 14.2 points per game while Darby Maggard (12.6 ppg) and Sally McCable (11.6 ppg) also register double-digits in scoring.
As a team, the Bruins average 74.2 points per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from three-point range. Belmont’s only league losses this season are to SEMO, SIUE and UTM.
TSU and BU will match up for the 36th time with the Bruins holding a 26-10 lead in the series. Belmont claimed the first meeting of the season, 80-65, in the Curb Event Center on Jan. 23.

TSU trailed by one at halftime but got outscored, 47-31, in the second half. I’mani Davis led TSU with 13 points while Jayda Johnson and Diamond Beatty each tallied 12. Jordan Brightwell finished the game with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Sally McCabe led Belmont (13-7, 5-2 OVC) with 18 points while Sierra Jones added 15. Kylee Smith and Darby Maggard each posted 12 points.
