The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will look to get back on track Wednesday when the Lady Tigers face the Panthers of Eastern Illinois in a conference match-up. Game time is set for noon in Lantz Arena for EIU’s Kid’s Day.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State has dropped six of its last seven contests and is looking to snap a five-game losing skid. The Lady Tigers are most recently coming off a, 75-65, loss to Southeast Missouri on the road Saturday in the OVC opener.
Juniors Jayda Johnson (13.4) and I’mani Davis (13.4 ppg) lead TSU in scoring while senior Brianna Lawrence (10.3 ppg) rounds out the top three scorers. These three upperclassmen also lead the Lady Tigers in rebounding.
As a team, TSU is averaging 60.8 points per game and shooting 34.7 percent from the field, including 28.2 percent from beyond the arc and 65.2 percent from the free-throw line.
The Lady Tigers are led by fourth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State led at halftime but saw the game slip away in the second frame. TSU dropped a 75-65 decision to SEMO on the road Saturday night in the OVC opener. I’mani Davis led TSU with 19 points while Jayda Johnson scored 12. Brianna Lawrence and Michelle Cox finished with 11. TSU shot 39.7 percent from the field in the game but only managed to connect 9-of-18 free-throw attempts. The Lady Tigers also gave up 46 bench points.
ABOUT EASTERN ILLINOIS
After winning the season opener versus IUPUI in November, Eastern Illinois has lost 13 straight contests. The Panthers are 1-13 with an 0-2 OVC mark. Most recently, EIU fell to Jacksonville State, 60-52, on the road.
Shakita Cox led EIU with 12 points while Grace Lennox added 10.
Cox also leads the team in scoring for the season with an average of 12.1 points per game. Erica Brown follows with 10.2 ppg while Lennox (8.5 ppg) rounds out the top three scorers.
As a team, the Panthers average 61.6 ppg while shooting 38.4 percent from the field and 29.1 percent from three-point range.
EIU also has an OVC loss to Tennessee Tech.
TSU will match-up with EIU for the 40th time in the series history with the Panthers holding a 28-11 advantage. TSU claimed last year’s meeting, 57-44, in the Gentry Center. EIU’s last win was an, 80-70, victory during the 2013-14 season.

The Lady Tigers will return to the Gentry Center for the first OVC home game on Saturday, Jan. 9. Tip-off vs. SIUE is slated for 5:30 p.m. TSU will match up with SIUE for the 8th time in the series history with the Cougars leading, 5-2. TSU claimed the last meeting between the two teams, upsetting SIUE, 71-59, in the semifinals of last year’s OVC tournament. Prior to that, TSU had dropped five straight to SIUE. The Cougars’ claimed last year’s regular season meeting, 57-44.
