TENNESSEE STATE (4-4) vs. LIPSCOMB (3-8)

The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will return to action at home versus Lipscomb on Sunday, Dec. 13. Game time is set for 3 p.m in the Gentry Center. The non-conference match-up is the last home game of 2015 for the Lady Tigers. Sunday will be recognized as Senior Citizens Day and fans ages 55+ get into the game for half price.

Tennessee State (4-4) had won three straight before falling to No. 9 Mississippi State on the road, 82-54, Sunday afternoon.
Juniors Jayda Johnson and I’mani Davis lead Tennessee State in scoring with an average on 12.9 points per game. Brianna Lawrence (9.8 ppg) is averaging just under double-digits and leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 rpg.
As a team, TSU is averaging 62.8 points per game and shooting 34.1 percent from the field, including 27.8 from beyond the arc and 65.4 percent from the free-throw line.
The Lady Tigers are led by fourth year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State got off to a great start in the first half and went toe-to-toe with the No.9 team in the nation but ultimately fell to Mississippi State, 82-54, last Sunday. After only trailing, 35-34, at halftime TSU was outscored, 47-20, in the second stanza. I’mani Davis was the only player to reach double-digits in scoring for TSU with 14 points while Diamond Beatty finished with nine. TSU committed 30 turnovers in the game and lost the battle of the boards, 48-30. After shooting, 50 percent from the field in the opening periods, the Lady Tigers only connected on 20 percent of their attempts in the second.
Lipscomb (3-8) has lost five straight games dating back to a Nov. 29 loss to Texas Southern in the Teresa Phillips Thanksgiving Classic. LU is recently coming off a 72-60 loss to Ball State at home on Thursday.
The Lady Bisons are 1-3 against OVC schools this year with a win over Murray State and losses to Belmont, Morehead State and SEMO.
Lipscomb, a member of the Atlantic Sun, is led in scoring by Ashley Southern who averages 21.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per outing.
As a team LU is averaging 70.0 ppg while shooting 39.6 percent from the field.
TSU will match up with Lipscomb for the 23rd time in the series history, with the Lady Tigers leading 18-4. Last season, TSU defeated Lipscomb, 73-55, at Allen Arena. Lipscomb’s last win was a close 81-78 overtime victory on 11/26/13.

TSU will travel to Montana to participate in the Lady Griz Classic, Dec. 19-20. The Lady Tigers will face Utah State on Saturday before matching up with either Florida Atlantic or Montana on Sunday. TSU will match up with Utah for the first time in the series history. A potential game with Florida Atlantic would also be the programs’ first meeting. Montana holds a 1-0 series advantage over TSU, with the Lady Griz claiming the only meeting, 71-48, a couple years ago (12/1/12).
