NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University women's basketball juniors I’mani Davis and Jayda Johnson were named to the Teresa Phillips Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament team while Johnson earned MVP accolades.
Davis and Johnson led TSU in scoring during the tournament and helped TSU go undefeated in the Thanksgiving Classic with victories over Texas Southern and North Alabama.
Johnson, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., averaged 17.5 ppg and 11.5 rpg during the tournament. She posted a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds to record the first double-double of her career in a, 72-56, rout over Texas Southern. The 6-0 Forward also had four assists and two blocks in the win. She followed that up with another double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds against North Alabama.
I’mani Davis (Tulsa, Okla.) turned in a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds in a 58-40 win over North Alabama. She had a solid overall performance as she also notched four blocks, two assists and two steals versus UNA. She just missed a double-double with 18 points and eight rebounds against Texas Southern. The 6-0 guard also had four steals in the contest.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
