Nashville, Tenn. --- Members of the Tennessee State University women’s basketball team visited Immanuel Baptist Church on Sunday, April 12.
Rachel Allen, Brianna Lawrence and Markayla Parker along with head coach Larry Inman had to the opportunity to speak with the members of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tenn. Sunday night.
Upon arrival, the Lady Tigers were celebrated for winning the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship on March 7. The title was the program’s first in 20 years and earned the team a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Brianna Lawrence was named the MVP of the tournament after averaging 16.7 points per contest through three games. The Conyers, Ga. native was instrumental in TSU’s upset over defending champ UT Martin in the title contest. She finished the game with 22 points after only scoring four in the opening half. She hit a three-pointer in the extra period to give TSU a, 61-57, lead with 34 seconds left.
The Lady Tigers shared their testimonies and talked about their journey to the OVC Championship with over 600 attendees.
“I was extremely nervous to speak in front of the large crowd but I calmed down once I began talking,” said junior Brianna Lawrence. “I loved the experience and it meant a lot to be able to share my story. I didn’t realize how much of an impact my testimony has on people. The energy was great in there and I felt like they were really engaged and listening to what I had to say.”
Lawrence will be the lone senior on the Lady Tiger basketball team next season.
