The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will look to get back on track as the squad continues a three-game home stand with a match up against UT Martin on Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers will welcome the reigning OVC Champions to the Gentry Center for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (8-10, 5-2 OVC) is coming off a disappointing, 64-62, decision to Belmont on Saturday. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Lady Tigers and handed the team its first OVC home loss of the season.
Redshirt senior Chelsea Hudson is leading the team in scoring with 14.7 points and 7.7 rpg. Briana Morrow averages a team second-best 6.4 rpg while I’mani Davis (8.7 ppg), Rachel Allen (7.7 ppg) and Brianna Lawrence (7.7 ppg) round out the top scorers.
TSU is shooting 37.8 percent from the field while averaging 65.6 points per outing. The Lady Tigers have struggled from the free-throw line, only connecting on 60.6 percent of their attempts but force opponents to 22.2 turnovers per game.
The Lady Tigers are led by third year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
TSU made a push down the stretch and had a chance to force overtime but ultimately fell to Belmont, 64-62, in the Gentry Center. Chelsea Hudson finished the game with 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double while Brianna Lawrence scored 15. TSU forced 20 turnovers but lost the battle of the boards, 41-32.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UT Martin is 11-9 overall with a 7-0 league mark. The Skyhawks are recently coming off a, 96-55, win over Southeast Missouri. UTM has won seven straight.
Sophomore Aisha Jones leads UTM in scoring with 21.8 points per game while Tiara Caldwell pulls down a team-best 7.0 boards per game. Jessy Ward also averages double-figures with 11.8 ppg.
The Skyhawks average 71.4 points per game behind a .443 shooting percentage. UTM is shooting 35.6 percent from three-point range and 69.3 percent from the free-throw line.
TSU will match up with Belmont for the 58th time in the series history, with UT Martin holding a slight, 29-28, advantage. The Skyhawks claimed last year’s meeting, 104-65, and have won five straight over the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers will welcome the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State to the Gentry Center for an OVC match-up. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
