Lady Tigers Open Practice For Upcoming Season
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s basketball team took to the court on Friday afternoon for the first practice of the season. The Lady Tigers hit the floor running with intensity and high energy in preparations for the 2014-15 campaign.
Head coach Larry Inman enters his third year at the helm of the Lady Tigers and looks to improve on back-to-back nine win seasons in Ohio Valley Conference play. Inman’s squad finished 12-18 a year ago, 9-7 in the OVC, with just one senior on the squad.
The Lady Tigers return four starters and ten letter winners from a team which averaged 72.8 points per game (PPG) in conference play. The total was third highest, behind Austin Peay (72.9) and UT Martin (93.2). Seniors Chelsea Hudson and Rachel Allen led the way averaging 15.9 and 11.4 PPG, respectively.
TSU will enter the year with an experienced squad. Nine returners averaged 11 minutes, or more, of playing time per game during 2013-14. To add to the depth, the Lady Tigers welcome the addition of four highly touted freshmen and a redshirt-sophomore to the mix.
TSU will open with an exhibition game in the Gentry Center versus Tennessee Temple on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The regular season begins on Friday, Nov. 14 as the Lady Tigers travel to face North Carolina State.
