TSU Welcomes SEMO for OVC Opener
The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will open up Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 with a match up versus Southeast Missouri. The Lady Tigers will tip-off against the Redhawks at 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State (3-8) has dropped two straight contests including its most recent 87-75 loss to #12/13 Kentucky on the road Dec. 31. The Lady Tigers are 1-5 at home to begin the season.
Chelsea Hudson is leading the team in scoring with 14.4 points and a team best 7.1 rpg. Briana Morrow is also leading the team in rebounds with 7.1 rpg while Brianna Lawrence (8.3 ppg), Rachel Allen (7.6 ppg) and I’mani Davis (7.6 ppg) round out the top scorers.
TSU is shooting 37.7 percent from the field while averaging 62.6 points per outing. The Lady Tigers have struggled shooting from the free-throw line, only connecting on 58.5 percent of their attempts but force opponents to 21.5 turnovers per game.
The Lady Tigers are led by third year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Southeast Missouri had won five of its last six contests before dropping its OVC opener to Belmont on Thursday, 62-39. Jasmine Robinson was the only player that managed to get into double-digits with 10 points while SEMO shot 26.6 percent from the field.
Conner King recorded 14 rebounds in the loss while Erin Bollman also registered double-digits with 10 caroms.
SEMO shoots 38.3 percent from the field but only 27.9 percent from three-point range. The Redhawks average 61.6 points and 40.6 rebounds per outing.
TSU and SEMO will meet for the 45th time in the series history with the Redhawks holding a 24-20 advantage. TSU claimed the only meeting between the teams last season, 75-67, in the Show-Me-Center.
TSU will continue conference play with a contest against Eastern Illinois at home on Jan. 7 before hitting to road to face SIU Edwardsville on Sat., Jan. 10.
