Jasmin Shuler selected to All-OVC Preseason Team, TSU picked 5th in East

Nashville, Tenn. --- Tennessee State University senior Jasmin Shuler was selected to the 2012 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball team while TSU was predicted to finish fifth in the East Division.

Shuler, a 2012 All-OVC second team selection, led TSU in scoring last season with 15.2 points per game.  The 5-8, guard also led the team in made-three pointers and three-point field goal percentage.

"I'm very proud of Jasmin for being selected to the All-OVC preseason team," said head coach Larry Joe Inman.  "She is a great player who has an opportunity to go on to even bigger things after college. She is one of the hardest working players on our team and she is very deserving of this recognition."

Shuler finished the season ranked ninth in the OVC in scoring, fifth in made three-point field goals eleventh in overall field goal percentage and 15th in three-point field goal percentage.

She posted a career-high 38 points against Morehead State and was named the OVC Player of the Week on Jan. 24.

The Clarksville, Tenn. native posted 440 total points during the 2011-12 campaign.

With 15 votes, Tennessee Tech was picked to finish first in the East Division while Eastern Kentucky and newest member Belmont rounded out the top three, respectively. Morehead State received 69 votes to edge TSU (68) while Jacksonville State was predicted to place sixth.

On being picked to finish fifth, head coach Larry Joe Inman had this to say: "Is that where we plan on being at the end of the year? No. Every year we plan on winning a championship. We realize it will be a hard fought battle but its something that's doable. We have the same opportunity as every other team does when we start the season. Picks don't matter much now, it's where you actually finish."

In the West Division, UT Martin received 19 first place votes while Eastern Illinois registered five. SIU Edwardsville was predicted to place third followed by Murray State, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri.

Following an exhibition game vs. North Alabama on Nov. 1, TSU will officially kick-off the season against Cumberland in the Gentry Center on Nov. 9.
