The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will make the trip to Clarksville on Saturday, Feb. 9 to match-up with Austin Peay in Ohio Valley Conference action. Game time is slated for 5:15 p.m. in the Dunn Center.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is coming off a, 71-68, overtime loss to Tennessee Tech at home on Monday. With the loss the Lady Tigers fell to 8-12 overall and 4-5 in the league. TSU is 2-3 on the road in league play this season. The Lady Tigers are fourth in the OVC East Division standings.
Tennessee State's three top leading scorers are Kesi Hess (12.0 ppg), Simone Hopes (11.3 ppg) and Jasmin Shuler (9.3 ppg). Hopes also leads the Lady Tigers in rebounding with 6.7 boards per outing.
As a team, TSU is averaging 60.2 points per contest while shooting 36.2 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from beyond the arc. TSU is currently connecting only 67.8 percent from the free-throw line while committing an average of 16.7 turnovers per game.
TSU averages 37. rebounds, 10.5 assists and 9.7 steals per game. The Lady Tigers are under first year head coach Larry Joe Inman.
LAST TIME OUT
The Tennessee State University women's basketball team played an inspired second half, overcoming a 15-point deficit to force overtime against Tennessee Tech. The Lady Tigers, however, came up short in the extra period, falling to the Golden Eagles, 81-78, in the Gentry Center. Simone Hopes led TSU with 23 points while Kesi Hess added 19.
ABOUT AUSTIN PEAY
Austin Peay has struggled this season as the Lady Govs are 6-16 overall with a 1-9 conference mark. Most recently, APSU dropped a, 69-51, decision to Southeast Missouri.
In the loss to SEMO, Taisha Gray led the Lady Govs with 12 points while Leslie Martinez tallied 10 points. Shelby Olszewski recorded eight rebounds.
Austin Peay's only OVC win this season was against Jacksonville State. APSU is in sixth place in the West Division.
As a team, APSU averages 61.1 points per game behind a .380 shooting percentage. The Lady Govs shoot 29.0 percent from the three-point line and 64.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Meg Bussabarger leads APSU in scoring with 12.7 points per game while Leslie Martinez averages 11.5 points per outing. Martinez also hauls in 7.6 rebounds per contest.
TSU vs. AUSTIN PEAY
Tennessee State and Austin Peay will meet for the 58th time in the series history, with APSU leading, 32-25. Saturday will mark the first and only regular season meeting between the two schools. Last season, TSU swept the series with a 95-81 win in the Gentry Center and an 82-77 victory on the road.
