Nashville --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball schedule for the 2011-12 season has been released.
The Lady Tigers will take on opponents from more than 10 different conferences this season: Horizon League, Big Ten, Atlantic Sun, Missouri Valley, Western Athletic, Conference USA, Mid-Eastern Athletic, Big West, Southwestern Athletic and the Sunbelt.
After an exhibition game scheduled for Nov. 1, Tennessee State will officially kick-off the 2011-12 campaign on the road with competitions at Cleveland State (Nov. 11) and Big Ten member Ohio State (Nov. 13).
The Lady Tigers will return to campus to face cross-town opponent Lipscomb in the home opener on Nov. 17 in the Gentry Center. Contests against Cumberland (11/19) and Southern Illinois (11/22) will round off the three-game home stand for TSU.
For the Thanksgiving holiday, Tennessee State will travel to Dallas to participate in the Hoops for the Cure tournament hosted by Southern Methodist, Nov. 25-26. The Lady Tigers will match-up with Fresno State on Friday before taking on either Southern Methodist or Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.
In the month of December, TSU will face a number of non-conference opponents including Memphis (12/1), South Alabama (12/3), Jackson State (12/10), and Middle Tennessee (12/18) and Florida A&M (12/22).
The Lady Tigers will open up conference play at the end of the year with a home game against Austin Peay on Dec. 29 before hitting the road to face Eastern Kentucky (12/31).
Shortly following the New Year, Tennessee State will host UT Martin in the Gentry Center on Jan. 2. Conference action will continue throughout the month with contests against Jacksonville State (1/7), Tennessee Tech (1/9), SIU Edwardsville (1/14), Morehead State (1/19) Eastern Illinois (1/23), Austin Peay (1/28) and UT Martin (1/30).
The Lady Tigers will open February with a home game versus Eastern Kentucky (2/1) before a couple of road games at Southeast Missouri (2/4) and Murray State (2/6).
A game against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 11 will kick-off a three-game home stand in which Tennessee State will face Jacksonville State (2/18) and Murray State (2/23).
The Ohio Valley Conference tournament is scheduled for February 29- March 3 at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.
Tennessee State has nine letterwinners returning for the 2011-12 campaign. Two red shirt freshmen and two newcomers will also join the squad this season.
