Nashville, Tenn. --- Tennessee State University's Rachel Allen was named the adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
A native of Clarksville,Tenn., Allen averaged 11.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game last week. She shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the field and 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from three-point range while knocking down 11-of-16 from the free-throw line.
In TSU's win over Austin Peay in the OVC opener, the 5-3 guard scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She connected 8-of-12 from the free-throw line and shot 50 percent from the field. She tallied three assists and one steal in the contest.
She registered 14 points and dished out seven assists against UT Martin. She went 5-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-3 from long range. She was a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe and tallied three rebounds.
Allen currently leads TSU in assists and ranks fourth in the OVC in assist/turnover ratio. She is tenth in the league in assists per game.
The award marks Allen's second honor of the season as she was named Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
