Lady Tigers host Lipscomb in season home-opener
The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will return to Nashville for the first home games of the regular season with a three-game home stand beginning on Thursday, Nov. 17 when the Lady Tigers host cross-town opponent Lipscomb University at 7 p.m. in the Gentry Center.

The Lady Tigers (0-2) opened the 2011-12 campaign on the road last weekend at Cleveland State and Ohio State. TSU dropped both contests, falling to CSU, 74-56, before suffering a, 78-51, loss to Big Ten member Ohio State on Sunday. TSU is averaging 53.5 points per outing while shooting 34.6 percent from the field, and 29.3 percent from beyond the arc. TSU is currently shooting only 31.8 percent from the free-throw line while committing an average of 22.0 turnovers per game.

Tennessee State dropped a 78-51 decision to No. 25 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon in Value City Arena. TSU struggled early and went into halftime trailing, 48-21, before matching OSU point-for-point in the second half. For the second straight game, Jasmin Shuler led TSU in scoring with 18 points. She knocked down 6-of-8 from the three-point line and had two steals in the game.

Jasmin Shuler is leading the Lady Tigers in scoring with 18.0 points per game while Destiney Gaston and Tayla Foster are averaging  8.0 ppg. Gaston (7.0 rpg) and Hudson (5.5 rpg) are the team's leading rebounders.

Lipscomb (0-2) is coming off a 61-58 loss to Austin Peay at home on Monday night. After jumping out to a 15-2 lead, LU carried a 40-32 lead into the halftime break but was outscored 29-18 in the second half. The Lady Bisons committed 25 turnovers in the loss while Morgan Faulkner led the team in scoring. Hannah Phillips recorded nine rebounds. Lipscomb is averaging 58.5 points per game behind a .382 shooting percentage. LU knocks down 35 percent from long range.

Thursday will mark the 20th meeting between the two programs as Tennessee State holds a 16-3 series advantage over Lipscomb. TSU claimed the last meeting against Lipscomb 69-66 in Allen Arena. Destiney Gaston led TSU with 17 points while Kesi Hess added 16. Simone Hopes recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
