The Lady Tigers (5-9, 2-3 OVC) will play their second game in three days when they make the trip to face the Skyhawks of UT Martin on Saturday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Skyhawk Arena.
LADY TIGER REVIEW
On Thursday the Lady Tigers picked up their second OVC win of the season by defeating Murray State, 60-57, on the road. TSU has won two of its last three.
In the win over Murray State, Tayla Foster paced the Lady Tiger offense with 16 points and six rebounds while Meredith Stafford added 11 points. Alana Morris posted 10 points and five boards while Simone Hopes grabbed seven rebounds.
TSU BY THE NUMBERS
Tennessee State is averaging 55.1 points per game while allowing opponents to score an average of 65.1 ppg. TSU is shooting 34.9 percent from the field, including 28.0 percent from three-point range. The Lady Tigers are shooting 72.7 percent from the free-throw line and average 20.1 turnovers, 10.1 assists, 7.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per outing.
LADY TIGER LEADERS
Meredith Stafford (11.0 ppg) is the team's leading scorer while Simone Hopes (5.7 rpg) leads the team in rebounding. Tayla Foster (8.4 ppg) and Simone Hopes (6.4 ppg) round out the top scorers for the Lady Tigers and Alana Morris pulls down just over five (5.1) rebounds per game.
ABOUT SATURDAY'S OPPONENT: UT MARTIN (8-7, 3-1 OVC)
UT Martin is off to a strong start in conference play. The Skyhawks' only league loss was against Morehead earlier this season. Although UTM was without leading scorer Heather Butler against Austin Peay, the Skyhawks were still able to rally for a 78-54 win over the Lady Govs.
Butler is leading the team with 20.9 points per game while Jasmine Newsome turns in 16.1 ppg. Jaclissa Haislip is averaging 8.5 ppg and a team best 8.0 rpg.
UTM is averaging 66.7 ppg while shooting 38.5 percent from the field. The Skyhawks knock down 33.6 percent of their 3-pointers and 70.2 percent of their free-throws.
UTM averages 17.9 turnovers, 11.3 assists, 7.1 steals, and 2.5 blocks per outing.
Saturday will mark the 52nd meeting between Tennessee State and UT Martin. The Lady Tigers lead the overall series 28-23. Last season, TSU and UTM split as each team picked up a win on the road.
