Nashville --- The Tennessee State women's basketball team fell to Austin Peay Saturday evening in the Gentry Center.
Tennessee State (5-12, 2-5 OVC) dropped its third straight contest while Austin Peay improved to 6-13 (5-2 OVC) on the season.
Meghan Bussabanger registered a double-double for Austin Peay with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Jasmine Rayner also posted 12 points. Nicole Olszewski tallied 11 points for the Lady Govs.
After a slow first half from both teams, Tennessee State went into the locker room with a slight, 25-24 lead.
Two free-throws gave APSU its first lead of the game (26-25) in the early moments of the second half before TSU reclaimed the lead, 27-26, on a lay-up by Jasmin Shuler.
With the score tied, 32-32, Austin Peay went on a 19-3 run over a span of nearly nine minutes to bust open the game and capture a 51-35 lead with 5:36 remaining.
After falling behind, 55-37, TSU managed to pull within 14 (55-41) but that would be as close as they would get.
Tennessee State shot a dismal 25.5 percent (14-of-55) from the field, including 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from three-point range. The Lady Tigers knocked down 12-of-13 free-throws for a 92.3 percentage.
Austin Peay went 20-of-52 from the field (38.5 percent) and hit 33.3 percent (3-of-9) of its three-point attempts. The Lady Govs shot 81.0 percent from the charity stripe.
Tennessee State returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 20 at home against Jacksonville State. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
