Nashville --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will host Austin Peay on Saturday, Feb.13 in the Gentry Center at 5:30 p.m.
After dropping two crucial OVC contests to Murray State and UT Martin last week the Lady Tigers (8-14, 5-8 OVC) have slipped into seventh place in the league standings.
Tennessee State has had its share of struggles on the road this season (1-9) but the Lady Tigers are 7-3 in the Gentry Center. Overall, TSU averages 61.4 points a game while allowing opponents to score 68.0 ppg. The Lady Tigers are shooting 35.4 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Lady Tigers average 18.0 turnovers, 11.9 assists and 8.1 steals per outing.
Oby Okafor is the team's leading scorer (14.9 ppg) and rebounder (7.7 rpg) while Meredith Stafford follows (8.5 ppg). Stafford, however, has scored double-digits in the last four games, averaging 17.8 points over that time span.
Tennessee State and Austin Peay will meet for the 53rd time in the all-time series. After defeating TSU 77-66 earlier this season in the Dunn Center, APSU improved its overall series lead to 30-22.
With an OVC record of 8-5, Austin Peay is in third place in the OVC race. The Lady Govs had dropped two straight before picking up a, 76-72, road win over Murray State on Saturday.
APSU has three players averaging double-digits in scoring led by Ashley Herring (13.2 ppg). Nicole Jamen averages 10.4 points and 8.3 rebounds while Jasmine Rayner turns in 10.3 points and 7.1 boards per contest.
As a team, the Lady Govs average 64.9 points a game while allowing opponents to score 73.2 per outing. APSU is shooting 38.6 percent from the field, including 25.4 percent from three-point range. The team is shooting 67.3 percent from the free-throw line while averaging 39.1 rebounds, 18.5 turnovers, 10.2 assists and 7.6 steals per contest.
The TSU vs. APSU game time is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center on Saturday.
