UT Martin up next for WBB

Nashville --- After a brief break, the Tennessee State University women's basketball team will return to action against UT Martin on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Skyhawk Arena.

The Lady Tigers (8-13, 5-7 OVC) are coming off of a 77-69 loss to Murray State on Thursday and currently sit in sixth place in the OVC standings.

Overall, Tennessee State averages 61.9 points and 41.1 rebounds per game while shooting 35.7 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from three-point range. TSU records 11.8 assists and 18.5 turnovers a game. The Lady Tigers lead the league in offensive boards per game with 17.2.

Oby Okafor is the teams leading scorer and rebounder with 15.2 ppg and 7.8 rpg.

Tennessee State and UT Martin will meet for the 51st time in the all-time series with TSU holding a 28-22 lead. The Lady Tigers have won three straight over the Skyhawks including this season's earlier meeting in the Gentry Center when TSU defeated UTM 51-38.

Although UT Martin is only 6-15 overall (4-7 OVC) the Skyhawks have won two straight and are climbing up in the OVC standings. UTM knocked off Murray State, 77-65, before defeating Austin Peay at home, 79-70, on Thursday.

The Skyhawks are currently in a tie for seventh place in the league and are one game out of sixth place.  UT Martin averages 52.0 ppg while shooting 37.2 percent from the field.  UTM pulls down 32.2 rebounds and averages 20.7 turnovers per game.

The Skyhawks are led in scoring by Alecia Weatherly with 12.5 points in addition to 6.3 rebounds a game. Cali Cupples is averaging (9.9) just under ten points a game for UTM.
