Nashville --- Tennessee State University student-athlete Meredith Stafford and graduate assistant Dominique Nelson took time to speak with fourth graders from Smithson Craighead Academy Elementary during their visit to campus on Thursday morning.

Stafford and Nelson were present at the Walter S. Davis Humanities Building to answer the fourth graders questions and talk to them about the importance of staying in school and getting good grades.

After Nelson and Stafford briefly discussed life on campus and the role of a student-athlete, the floor was opened for questions. The young students asked a number of questions, ranging from basketball to education.

While on campus, the fourth graders will also take a campus tour, eat in the dining hall as well as experience a mini step show.

Metro Nashville's first charter school, Smithson Craighead Academy Elementary was established in 2003 to serve 250 students.
