Lady Tigers host Jacksonville State on Senior Day

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University Lady Tiger seniors will play their final game in the Gentry Center on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Jacksonville State.

With the conference race being as close as it is, Tennessee State (9-15, 6-9 OVC) slipped from 5th place down to 7th place following Monday night's, 76-73, loss to Tennessee Tech. TSU and UT Martin are currently tied for seventh.

Tennessee State is 8-4 overall at home this season and 5-3 in conference play.

As a team, TSU has struggled from the free-throw line only shooting 60.1 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Tigers are shooting 35.9 percent from the field while averaging 62.1 point a game. TSU averages 18.0 turnovers and 12.0 assists per outing.  

Oby Okafor leads the team with 14.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Meredith Stafford is the second leading scorer with 9.8 ppg, however, she has averaged 19.2 ppg over the last six contests.

Jacksonville State (8-18, 5-11 OVC) has dropped two straight contests, most recently falling to Austin Peay 75-71 on Thursday. Before that, JSU lost at home to Murray State, 71-60, after defeating UT Martin, 56-51.

Brittany Wiley (9.7 ppg) and Karisma Boykin (8.4 ppg) are Jacksonville State's leading scorers while Wiley also pulls down a team best 5.5 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Gamecocks average 57.5 points a game while allowing opponents to score 66.6 per outing. JSU is shooting 36.1 percent from the field and 28.7 percent from three-point range. The team is shooting 61.3 percent from the free-throw line while averaging 37.3 rebounds, 16.0 turnovers, 12.2 assists and 6.9 steals per contest.

JSU is 2-5 on the road in league play this season and currently sits in ninth place in the league standings. 

Tennessee State and Jacksonville State will meet for only the 17th time in the all-time series history. JSU extended its series advantage to 9-7 after defeating TSU 82-75 in overtime in Pete Mathews Coliseum earlier this season.

TSU vs. JSU is slated for 3 p.m. in the Gentry Center. The senior recognitions will take place before the start of the game.
