Charleston, Ill. --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will face off against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, March 2, in the opening round of the OVC tournament.
The match-up marks the third consecutive year that the two teams will meet in the tournament. TSU fell to EIU in the semifinals last year and in the opening round a year before.
TSU will look to snap EIU's nine-game winning streak.
Oby Okafor is the Lady Tigers leading scorer and rebounder with 14.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Okafor leads the league in offensive boards and ranks sixth in field goal percentage. LaDona Pierce leads the team in assists and ranks second in the OVC.
Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois will meet for the 32nd time in the all-time series. EIU leads the series 21-10 and has won eleven out of the last twelve contests.
Eastern Illinois won the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title outright on Thursday when they defeated Austin Peay, 78-47, at home.
The Panthers defeated the Lady Tigers, 79-67, on Saturday to remain undefeated at home, 9-0, in league play.
EIU's only two OVC losses came to Austin Peay and UT Martin on the road. This is EIU's first time being a number one seed.
EIU is averaging 70.0 ppg while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 29.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Panthers shoot 71.9 percent from the free-throw line and average 15.4 assists per game.
TaKeyna Nixon, the OVC's fifth leading scorer, turns in a team best 13.5 points a game. Maggie Kloak (12.3 ppg) and Dominique Sims (11.0 ppg) also average double-digits for the Panthers.
