WBB looks to end road slump against Jacksonville State

Nashville --- TSU will look to pick up its first road win of the season on Tuesday with an OVC match-up against Jacksonville State. 

The Lady Tigers (6-10, 3-4 OVC) had won two straight before suffering a  77-66 loss to Austin Peay last Thursday. Oby Okafor posted a season-high 28 points to go with 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season but it wasn’t enough. Jasmin Shuler also scored 19 points for TSU.

Overall, Tennessee State is averaging 60.2 points a game while shooting 35.4 percent from the field, including 26.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Lady Tigers connect on 56.6 percent of their free-throws and pull down 41.2 rebounds per game. Oby Okafor is the only player averaging double figures with 14.8 points per contest. She also leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per outing.

TSU has yet to pick up a win outside of the Gentry Center this season. The Lady Tigers are 0-6 on the road and 0-2 at neutral locations.

Jacksonville State (5-12, 2-5 OVC) has struggled this season, but the Gamecocks have won two of their last three games. JSU picked up a, 70-60, win against Morehead State and is recently coming off of a 63-55 win over UT Martin.

Against UT Martin, Brittany Wiley led JSU with 19 points while Danielle Beneby added 11 and Danielle Vaughn scored 10. The Gamecocks shot 43.6 percent from the field, including 38.1 percent from three-point range in the contest.

As a team, Jacksonville State is averaging 56.6 points a game while shooting 36.3 percent from the field.  JSU averages 36.2 rebounds and 16.9 turnovers per game.

Tennessee State and Jacksonville State will meet for only the 16th time in the all-time series. JSU holds a slight 8-7 lead but TSU has won three straight. Last season, the Lady Tigers defeated the Gamecocks 65-50 in the Gentry Center before picking up a 57-52 victory on the road.
