WBB heads to Clarksville to face Austin Peay

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will look to win its third straight on Thursday when they face Austin Peay in the Dunn Center.

Tennessee State (6-9, 3-3 OVC) is coming off of a 51-38 win over UT Martin at home. In the contest, Oby Okafor, Nikki Rumph and Jasmin Shuler each tallied 12 points. Okafor also notched 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Overall, Tennessee State is shooting 35.7 percent from the field while averaging 59.9 points a game. The Lady Tigers are allowing opponents to score an average of 67.2 ppg and shoot better than 40 percent from the field. TSU is still struggling from beyond the arc (26.6 percent) and from the charity stripe (55.5 percent).

TSU has yet to pick up a win outside of the Gentry Center this season. The Lady Tigers are 0-5 on the road and 0-2 at neutral locations.

Despite the Lady Govs’ overall record of 5-12, Austin Peay is currently 4-2 in the OVC. APSU has won all four at home while dropping contests at Morehead and Eastern Kentucky.

The Lady Govs are recently coming off an 83-79 win over Murray State. Against MSU, APSU had five players to score in double-digits, led by Ashley Herring’s 19. Nicole Jamen scored 16 and Brooke Faulkner added 15 while Jasmine Rayner recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Darcie Warner rounded out the top scorers with 10.

Overall, Austin Peay is averaging 62.6 points a game while shooting 37 percent from the field. The Lady Govs have struggled from beyond the arc, only connecting on 24.5 percent of their attempts. APSU is shooting 67.7 percent from the free-throw line while averaging 38.8 rebounds and 19.3 turnovers a game. 

Tennessee State and Austin Peay will meet for the 52nd time in the all-time series. APSU holds a 29-22 advantage but TSU has won four straight. The Lady Tigers have swept the season series for the past two campaigns as the Lady Govs’ last win was an 81-72 victory on Feb.12, 2007 in the Dunn Center. Last season, TSU beat APSU 56-52 at home before picking up a 69-61 win on the road.
