Nashville --- The Lady Tigers will play their second game in three days on Monday, Feb.15 with they host the visiting Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech in the Gentry Center at 5:30 p.m.
With the OVC race being as close as it is, each game is critical. Tennessee State is currently locked in a two-way tie for fifth place.
Tennessee State has had its share of struggles on the road this season (1-9) but the Lady Tigers are 8-3 in the Gentry Center. Overall, TSU averages 61.7 points a game while allowing opponents to score 67.5 ppg. The Lady Tigers are shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 28.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Lady Tigers average 18.0 turnovers, 12.0 assists and 8.2 steals per outing.
Oby Okafor is the team's leading scorer (14.9 ppg) and rebounder (7.5 rpg) while Meredith Stafford follows (9.2 ppg). Stafford has scored double-digits in the last five games, averaging 19.2 points over that time span.
Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech will meet for the 52nd time in the all-time series history. Tennessee State claimed the first meeting of the season 65-62 at the Eblen Center. TTU leads the all time series, 41-10.
Tennessee Tech (11-14, 6-9 OVC) has won two straight contests while posting 80-plus points in each. The Golden Eagles picked up home wins over Murray State and UT-Martin last week and currently sit in seventh place in a tight OVC race.
Tacarra Hayes leads TTU in scoring and rebounding with 16.2 ppg and 5.8 rpg. Kellie Cook is the team's second leading scorer with 13.0 points a game.
As a team, the Golden Eagles average 65.4 points a game while allowing opponents to score 66.9 per outing. TTU is shooting 38.3 percent from the field, including 31.7 percent from three-point range. The team is shooting 63.2 percent from the free-throw line while averaging 40.3 rebounds, 16.9 turnovers, 11.8 assists and 6.8 steals per contest.
